Announcing the Harold J. West Memorial Scholarship
It’s only been five months since we lost our beloved partner, mentor, and friend Harold West. We, like we know so many of you, continue to think of him every day. During this time of mourning and healing, his family has been trying to find the best way to honor Harold and the legacy that he leaves behind. To that end, the West family is pleased to announce the creation of the Harold J. West Memorial Scholarship.
Anyone who knew Harold quickly saw his larger-than-life personality, warmth, love for his family and the Dodgers, and his deep passion for his work. However, what many don’t know is the long and bumpy road that led to Harold’s success in his personal and professional life.
He was born and raised in New York (obviously), met Marilyn when he was 14 years old, was married at 22, and became a father by the time he was 23. Harold’s family came from a poor neighborhood in Brooklyn. Anything Harold had, he earned on his own so it was during those early years of his marriage that Harold had his most difficult struggles. He was a newlywed and a parent – all the while working full time during the day and going to night school full time. Even as a young adult, Harold worked diligently to be a committed parent, husband, employee, and student. His tireless work ethic and approach to life not only shaped his success over the course of his career but was an inspiration to those who bore witness to it.
Harold’s story was the catalyst for the establishment of this scholarship honoring him and his unparalleled work ethic. The family’s goal is to support others who may find themselves in a similar struggle – striking that difficult balance between family priorities and the ambition to succeed. A working parent trying to obtain a college degree with the hope of achieving success for his family was a struggle Harold knew very well. And, there are plenty more people who experience similar and even more challenging circumstances on their paths to success.
Fineman West and its clients meant the world to Harold. If you are interested in honoring his life, the contribution he had in your success, or simply want to pay it forward, you can make your charitable gift by mailing your check to:
